Distinctives of a Hope Prep Education

Students who complete 6th grade at Hope Preparatory will have:

  • gained a thorough knowledge in the core subjects of phonics, reading, writing, and math.
  • memorized and mastered math facts, concepts, and computation through traditional and hands-on curricula.
  • mastered the basics of English grammar through in-depth sentence analysis, memorization of grammar charts, and diagramming of sentences. Grammar knowledge will be applied through weekly writing assignments.
  • memorized a world history timeline and history facts through two 3-year chronological history cycles.
  • memorized a catalog of science facts w/ hands-on scientific discovery fostering wonder in God’s creation
  • learned to hand-draw the entire world map from memory, including countries, capitals, and features.
  • developed their skill and enjoyment of public speaking through weekly classroom oral presentations, reciting poetry and scripture, and performing in plays and special programs throughout the year.
  • completed 4 years of formal Latin study, which will strengthen the student’s English vocabulary and grammar, will lay a foundation for future language study, will foster a deeper understanding of history, and will sharpen thinking and learning skills.
  • studied a chronological history of art following the history cycles, including 36 great masters projects in which students imitate God’s beauty and the works of master artists, while they are taught the elements of art, principles of design, and the fundamentals of drawing. Music and drama classes will follow a similar course of study.
  • memorized a whole passage, chapter, or book of scripture yearly, such as; I Cor 13, Exodus 20, Isaiah 40, Psalm 139, Romans 8, Phil 2, the Book of Philippians, the Book of James, or the Sermon on the Mount.
  • had opportunities to “do unto others” through a leadership class in which students will hear excellent speakers and will plan and execute yearly local or foreign service projects or mission trips.
  • will attend field trips such as a visit to a college or university each fall with an eye toward their future.
